What is happening with PC-Gaming ?
Post Body

Hey guys, the recent events are really bothering me. One day you hear about all the fucked up stuff Ubisoft did and the next day you read an interview with a "game developer" who states that they will cut the PC version of a game to achieve the same experience on every system. And don't forget about all the unfinished games that are released.

If I currently had to predict the future of PC-Gaming I would say it will be dead in 10 years. Why buy a PC if the developers/publischers nullify all the advantages ? In my opinion the problem is that noone is trying to stop this development. The shit storm is simply not enough to change the mind of publishers and developer. Since people will still buy their games and console peasants don't care about all those problems, our voices will stay unheared.

Many people suggest not to buy any games from Publishers that do stuff like this. But since most of the people will still buy games, the publishers don't care. Mostly since gaming is becoming more popular than it ever was and people want to play those regardless of the fact that they support shit-Publishers. And in the end other publishers will follow because there are no disadvantages about putting less development in a game. The shitstorm will stop at some point and we will just accept it.

But what can we do about this ? I thought that since there are million of PC players: "Why not create a standard for released games ?" Publishers have to meet certain standards to be allowed to release a game, for example that it can be customized to every PC setup there is. You have a quad gtx780ti sli running ? No problem, you can easily adjust the settings to fully make use of your system. You play on a laptop ? No problem just lower the settings to a minimum and the game will still run properly. Of course this can not apply to outdated/old hardware.

But how to achieve this ? I know that 1 million people can start a European Citizens' Initiative. Why not demand an institution that checks the games that publishers want to release in Euorpe ? Such an institution is a normal thing for many other stuff, like meat or toys. If a game fails to pass some test (stability, performance on different systems,...) publishers won't be allowed to publish it. Of course this may hurt the European market for games and some games will not be published in Europe. But I don't believe publishers will give up the complete European market. To not hurt indie-developers, this people are the only one allowed to release games without a check. Furthermore, f2p games don't need to be checked either. But people have the chance to force a check if enough agree with it. (to prevent publishers to create f2p and just make them f2p)

So what do you guys think about this idea ? Would you support something like this ? Any critic points ? This idea came into my mind while showering and I wrote it down as fast as possible. So I didn't really check for flaws in my plan.

But much more important: Do you have any other ideas how to improve the PC-Gaming experience now and in the future?

TL;DR: Publishers are fucking up the game industry. How to change this ?
