Post Body

I was playing some games (specifically Baldur’s Gate 3) before I left for work. Didn’t turn off my PC as I was only going to be gone a few hours and never had an issue before.

Came back and the PC was still on, screen was black, lights still on, fans still spinning, nothing abnormal.

Moved my mouse to wake it up, clacked on my keyboard a few times, turned it off and back on and… nothing.

I recently (within the last week) got a new GPU — MSI Gaming X Classic AMD 7900XTX. It’s a pretty hefty card and massively outclasses the entirety of the rest of the components.

It’s honestly like having been blind my entire life and then finally opening my eyes and seeing for the first time after upgrading from an old XFX RX580 4GB.

I still have my old GPU so I first tried swapping back to it with no luck.

Swapped around the RAM, because maybe it was getting stuck in a boot loop or something. Zero change.

Changed out the power cables, as my PSU came with extra PCIe cables. No dice.

I had a support bracket for the 7900xtx, but when I was initially installing it, I questioned the adequacy of it. It’s just a thin piece of metal that’s only supported by the i/o screws.

Just as well, it was the original support bracket that came with a MSI Gaming X Trio 6900XT. Long story short, RMA’d a DOA 6900XT and they couldn’t fix it so they sent me the 7900XTX (talk about luck). So maybe it really wasn’t adequate…

I’m thinking maybe something in the PCIe port gave out because everything was fine until this point. Had the RX580 in there for months with no issues and suddenly, after getting a much larger card, something goes wrong.

Unfortunately, I don’t have other spare parts to test.

It’s also worth noting that everything except the 7900xtx and PSU was bought used.

Hopefully someone can help me figure something out.

Other specs;

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x Mobo: Asrock A520M-HDV RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x 8GB 3000MHz PSU: Corsair RM750 80
