Upgrading Hardware for a Single Purpose
Post Body

Call me crazy, but I already made a post on the subreddit for the game, that game being Cyberpunk 2077. For those unaware of the absolute monstrosity that is this games graphical ceiling, it takes advantage of all the modern Nvidia 2000, 3000, and 4000 series improvements by utilizing DLSS, Frame Gen and Reflex (including AMD's counterpart, I think it's called FFSR).

To make a long story short, I have one objective right now, and that's to play with the games added graphical fidelity, this being the notoriously intensive RT Overdrive.

Now, currently when I run the game I roughly get anywhere from 45-50 in the most intensive situations for lighting and combat, (I tested using the entire ending of the game as a basis for performance as it more reflects the type of intensive gameplay the game is going to have to deal with on a full playthrough.) But this is achieved by using the above mentioned DLSS, set to the 'Balanced' setting, and the Frame Generation offered by the 4000 series cards. While these don't bother me as I just purchased a 4070 about 2 months ago.

With all this said above, here's my current setup.

  • AMD Ryzen 7 - 5800X
  • MSI X570 Tomahawk Wi-Fi
  • 32GB of Corsair Vengeance RGB @ 3200mhz
  • Gigabyte RTX 4070 12GB
  • SeaSonic Gold 80 750w
  • WD Black 1TB M.2

Now Micro Center, for those unaware, offers a selection of CPU and Motherboard combos for both AMD and Intel, and while I've been using AMD for the last three of my systems, for the first time the Intel offer seems to be more enticing.

So my question for the sub is will the upgrade from the Ryzen 5800X and DDR4, to a Intel i7-13700k and DDR5 be a substantial enough jump to get me closer to 60-70 in that intensive gameplay situation. Is it worth it?

Edit: Iā€™m trying to run the game @2560x1440p, but I cannot post percentages currently and will give more specifics later
