Why does my minecraft have such low frames with mods?

I can run most games on ultra/high, but for minecraft with mods my computer wants to die for some reason but I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Specs: 32 Gigs of ram (8 gigs allocated) Gtx 1070ti graphics card I7 2.20 Ghz core processor 64 bit Windows 10 pro

I'm running a modpack with a 140 mods, and pre generated the world, and can run around at about 10 to 20 frames a second. This has happened on several occasions, with several mods/modpacks that are smaller in comparison.

Tl;DR: New person to the modding community cant figure out why his decent pc cant handle m is minecraft with mods.
