HOTAS interfering with FPS controls ...

Just got my X-55 HOTAS, and I love it. Except that it freaks out the controls of many other games when it's plugged in.
Is there a simple solution or program to disable peripherals? A widget on my sidebar (like AudioSwitcher) would be amazing, but my google-fu has failed me.
It's a pain in the ass to have to get up and contort myself behind my case whenever I want to use a peripheral.
I can't be the first person to be this lazy, right??
