Games Feel Worse anytime I turn off Vsync

This practically goes for any game I play whether multiplayer/singleplayer etc. I have a freesync 2k monitor and it is enabled as well. My specs currently are RTX 4080, I7 13700K Raptor Lake, 32 gb ram 3600mhz.

I've been told by all my friends and such to remove vsync in games and just cap the frames and every time I do the games perform much worse, look worse, stutter etc. any combination of that stuff and it's across pretty much every game. I'm really confused on why this is because I was told it's to be much smoother
