XMP?

Hey everyone, Whenever I try to use the XMP profile in my bios, my PC will not boot. I have heard one of the common solutions to this is to update bios. I have also heard updating the bios can cause separate issues. So I was just wondering if I should try to update the bios or if I should just leave it alone and except the fact that I cannot use XMP. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
