Comparing budget wheels with FFB - G29 / G920 or TMX Pro? Which is the better option?

Post Body

I'm really enjoying some Project Cars 2 and considering Assetto Corsa in the near future as well. Wondering about which wheel to get.

I'm not rich, and have other interests, so I'm looking at budget FFB wheels. Given the COVID-19 stuff, definitely not buying used right now (and I'd prefer new anyway), so I've narrowed it down to two wheels that I can budget for that are about the same price (~$230-245):

  • Logitech G920 / G29 (I prefer the Xbox branding, since I'm on PC)
  • Thrustmaster TMX Pro

Out of these, I've read the FFB is "notchy" on the G29/920 but is this bad? Like what's the consensus on this? A lot of people seem to prefer the G29 from what I've seen. Is the FFB unrealistic compared to the Thrustmaster belt and gear FFB? Also, is there an major reason to prefer the G29 over the G920 model? Since I'm not a console player, having PS buttons would be a bit weird, but nothing I'd be too bothered by.

I'm leaning toward the TMX Pro, as it's got the good pedals and FFB, but I'm concerned as it needs active cooling and probably is more likely to fail. I hear the Logitechs are built like tanks, and I would like a unit that will last. I've also heard the FFB on the TMX Pro is more subtle? Is it better, or "weaker" than the Logitech?

Any thoughts on these two models? They're within $10 of each other, so barring any major pros or cons between them, I'm at a point where I'm likely to get whichever goes on sale first, but curious if one is better than the other.
