Let me preface this by saying that I could not stand the original games, I thought they were edgy and boring button mashing garbage and I couldn’t get into them, so I stopped playing the series halfway through the second game.
With PS releasing GoW as the monthly for June I figured I might as well get my dollar out of it and try the game and I have got to say, it has single-handedly reopened the series for me, so much so that I went and committed a cardinal gaming sin and decided to preorder Ragnarok.
The storytelling in this game is unbelievable, the interaction between characters, the growth, the environment, dialogue, everything down to the minutiae of how the world looks is impressing the absolute fuck out of me and I haven’t had this much fun with a game in a long time.
I genuinely am kind of shocked after how much I disliked the original trilogy.

I'm with you! The single most overrated game I've ever played, based purely on how much people and reviews hyped it up (with RDR2 running it a close second). I absolutely adore the original GoW games and have completed them multiple times, but with this, I stuck it on Ebay the second I'd finished it. Like you, I found it pretty boring, really missed the boss battles against the Gods (the trolls and valkyires in this version just didn't excite me at all), and his son was the most annoying little shit. I can see how people enjoyed it, but I certainly wasn't one of them.
