I've been meaning to play Days gone for awhile. When it came out the reviews were mixed for the most part. Which made me want to wait for a sale. The things I heard for the most part was the writing is cliché and the game is very repetitive.
The game for me is right up my alley. I love post apocalypse, zombies. Resident evil, last of us, dying light etc. The game takes a lot of inspiration from different things. Sons of Anarchy, last of us, walking dead.
Overall I thought it was a good game but way too long and a lot of missions were filler. Which is kind of expected with open world games for the most part. Also if you want to get better gear and upgrade your bike. The grind is so brutal I wish the content was more varied it some way.
The story for the most part. I just took it at face value. I used to watch the walking dead and days gone is basically at that level of writing. Twists you can see a mile away.
The gameplay is very much the last of us. The shooting, movement, crafting system, survival vision. I really like the hordes and the different systems at play. You can have a "far cry moment" where your fighting an enemy camp and a horde busts though and kills everyone for you. Which is fun. Fighting the hordes can be very intense and trying to crowd control is interesting.
I really enjoyed the environments in this game they mix it up quite nicely. Forests, snow, swamp land. I really liked the motorcycle its fun to drive around in that thing.
The game has some bugs. Getting stuck on level geometry or the scripting getting messed up so you lose progress reloading a save sometimes.
I don't think a sequel will be made but I wish they mixed it up more in terms of what you do. I look at a game like the Witcher 3. They give you choices that affect the story/character relationships, monster contracts. Keeps you hooked all the way through.
Being able to customize your weapons would add a lot.
I liked the different camps. The problem is nothing interesting to do in them. basebuilding would be great or defending your base from attacks. Like state of decay. I don't know how those things would work in a game like this but it needs something way more.
