After playing blind forest almost year ago, i just had to give will of the wisp a go, and i have to say, the game is georgous. Not just in its artstyle, but also in the way it conveys emotions.
The opening cutscene shows the beautiful family relationship between Naru, gumo, ku and ori. It really shows how they deeply care for each other, and i love the sibling relationship of ori and Ku.
Will of the wisp made me really feel for the characters, not just my family, but the characters you meet through out the adventure.
The main antagonist is very sympathetic, i couldn't forgive her for certain acts she did in the game, but the more you learn about her, the more you feel for her tragic and lonely backstory.
Ori improves on certain gameplay elements of it's predessor. One of the biggest ones for me was the combat, unlike the first game, ori and now use different weapons and abilities, which makes experimenting fun when fighting arrange of different enemies. Another aspect i really liked is the save system. In the original, you had to manually put checkpoints, which means you could end up check pointing at a really dangerous area, you also had to save at a well. In this one, the game autosaves and you can later get a fast travel system where you can warp to any well.
Ori is also very challenging, especially if you are going for 100%. Not only do you need to get all collectables, but also complete the spirit/combat trials and all sidequests. The most challenging for me were the spirit trials, as they really test you on reaction times and quick movements.
The areas in will of the wisp are breathtaking, each world is visually stunning in it's own way. My personal favourite is luma pools, just seeing those vibrant colours was amazing.
10/10 great game, if i had any criticisms, it would be the chase scenes, they are fun at first, but overstay there welcome eventually. (however, i really enjoyed the one in silent woods)
Overall ori and the will of the wisp is a beautiful, emotional, fun and challenging game that is well worth your time, especially if you enjoy platformers and metroidvanias. (however i recommend playing blind forest first if you haven't) i had an absolute blast with this game, and i'm looking forward to what moon studios will make in the future.
