Disclaimer: I'm not making this post to take down u/Stukapooka's post, or disprove his claims. I'm making this to simply shed some light on the game, because I disagree that this is one of the worst games of 2019. This isn't a good game by any means, but I don't think it's a bad game either. Let me explain by posting some positives.
*THE PVE REGIONS\*
In this game, there are 4 different Free Roam areas, each with it's own different boss and missions. There's Town Center Day (Plants), Mount Steep (Plants), Town Center Night (Zombies) and Weirding Woods (Zombies).
The regions all have different and unique final bosses, which are fought after playing through 4 starting missions and collecting 3 different items to create a Super Weapon used to weaken the bosses. They are:
- Olds Cool, the big afro Disco Zombie that captured Plants with their Boogie Traps.
- Major Problem, the mean, green, impish fighting machine that threatens to melt Olde Town with molten cheese.
- Dreadwood, the tree ruler of the Woods that has all bark, and SOME bite.
- Blightcap, the big mushroom that roams the town at night, transforming Zombies into gasp FUNCTIONING MEMBERS OF SOCIETY.
All the bosses offer a unique experience that match Platformers with Shooters, but they aren't everything that the PvE Regions have to offer. You can:
- Collect and conquer Golden Gnome Challenges
- Fight different Bounty Hunts with custom character bosses
- Clear challenges and earn Medals
- And much more...
*THE MUSIC\*
Everyone remembers Laura Sigihara's masterful soundtrack for PvZ 1. Braniac Maniac, Loonboon, Grasswalk... every track of that game is memorable.
What you may not have known, is that the series' new long time composer, Peter McConnell, has also made some JAMS. Here's an example:

This is the theme for Preserve Pastures (a map for the Turf Takeover gamemode), and it's a genuine banger. There are lots of other examples, but the overall gist is that this game's soundtrack rocks. It also has Garden Warfare 1 and 2 tracks, so if you miss them, don't fret! The game likes to use quite a bunch of songs from each installment.
*THE MAPS AND GRAPHICS\*
Though the game doesn't have that many creative maps compared to Garden Warfare 2's (you go to Space and Egypt on that game, there's no limit!), the game's maps look GORGEOUS. The newest map, Tourist Trap Island, perfectly captures the feel of a tropical island, alongside it's appropriate accompanying music.
*PLAYING WITH FRIENDS\*
This game has a lot of fun moments to be had when playing with Voice Chat on. The weekly gamemode of this week, Minion Madness, is a good example: Everyone plays as the Spawnable AI Wildflower and TV Head, in a hysterical yet hilarious mode. Characters like Wizard and Acorn/Oak are also quite enjoyable with friends, due to their amazing Team-Up features, unique to this shooter. Space Cadet too, but not on the same level as those two classes.
*THE UPCOMING CONTENT\*
Like u/Stukapooka said, the Ops gamemode is quite underwhelming... so far. Deep in the game files, there's a leaked upcoming update to the Ops gamemode, that promises to add the BEST experience to Ops the series has ever seen, including a Currency System similar to the one of Mann vs Machine from Team Fortress 2, new Enemy types and new bosses. There's also a leaked Gnome mode, where you play as a Gnome, and it's as cynical as it sounds. New characters are also being leaked, spanning from a Superhero Bean to the Iceberg Lettuce plant from Plants vs Zombies 2.
Overall, this game is not as bad as the other post claims, but it's ugliness DEFINITELY can be seen. The bugs are quite frequent (though not on the same level to be compared to Sonic 06), the MTX system is ridiculous (however, there is an argument to be had over it's superiority/inferiority over Garden Warfare 2's MTX system), and the gameplay can be quite frustrating.
Do I personally recommend the game? It depends. It could definitely be worth your time if you're picking it up to play with a friend, though you should probably avoid PC. The game has a dwindling playerbase on the PC platform (and it's quite unoptimized), so pick it up on consoles if you're willing to play the game for the quite enjoyable Singleplayer campaigns and a fun experience with friends.
