I have a lot more time on my hands at the moment due to the happenings, and saw Humble Bundle put out a new bundle for £12 with all 4 seasons, so figured this a good opportunity to hop right in to it, and played the entire thing over the course of a week.
I played seasons 1 and 2 around 4 years ago, so I had forgotten a lot of the story. I replayed those two seasons again before hopping into the newer ones, and boy am I glad I did. I got to (Season 1 spoiler) feel with Clementine when Lee died and she put him out of her misery, and re-experience (Season 2 spoiler) AJ's early days, with Jane baiting Kenny with his pretended death, and Kenny killing her
Season 3 I found to be the weakest of the lot. Javi was an interesting protagonist, but I didn't feel like there were any major decisions to be made. And then him, and most of S3's cast were never mentioned again in S4 beyond passing references to Richmond.
But I am so happy I got through the comparatively weak S3 to get to S4, because in terms of tension and stakes, it was up there with S1 for me. (Season 3 spoiler)Clementine's story with AJ was so impactful on me. Before TWD I never cried at a game before, but the moment in S3 where David took AJ away from Clem, and AJ said Clem's name after she kissed him goodbye made me well up. (Season 4 spoiler) And the scene in S4 where Clem asks AJ to kill her, and you think she does. That made me come close to crying like a baby
The ending to the series was superb. Given Telltale's shutdown occured in the middle of S4, and Skybound took over the final two episodes, it would have been very easy to phone it in, and not give the characters the ending they deserve. Luckily Skybound did a brilliant job. (Season 4 spoiler) The scene where they revealed Clem wasn't dead made me so happy, and AJ's walk through the school to place Clem's hat in the room was a great end to a great series
Overall, this series has been some of my favourite games I've ever played, and if you haven't played them I highly recommend you go pick up that Humble Bundle before it expires in just under 10 days
