I love RPGs, but only played them on PC. So, I decided to research all the console RPGs I'd missed out on. I tried to find the definitive versions of each of these, using Google Fu (if you have corrections for which versions to play, they're very welcome). A few of them are on PC but inferior ports (*caught* early Final Fantasy). I marked games I am excited about with exclamation marks and tallied them alongside the total number on a console, and then added backwards compatible tallies afterwards:
A very helpful source to investigate worthwhile games were the videos from Eric Landon RPG. Not the old slideshow videos, but his quality edited and succinctly narrated ones. I mostly used youtube to see how the games played in reviews, staying clear of corporate reviews as they often say a whole lot of nothing and are very arbitrary.
Edit: Some of these games are sequels to games I've got/will get the PC versions of or I am waiting for their announced pc ports. Chrono Trigger, Shining Force 1 and 2, Disgaea series, Phantom Star IV, Alliance Alive, first two Grandia, Final Fantasy VII and onward, Ys series.
