I had been in a serious gaming slump for a while, and just not enjoying the hobby. I have way less time to game these days (same old story), and I'd been predominantly playing MP titles and MMO's. I just started to feel like I was falling behind on endless treadmills playing them. So, remembering how much I loved my old DS, I sold my Xbox One and bought a New 2DS XL along with a bunch of the "must play" titles I saw recommended on here and in /r/3DS
At roughly 50% complete, Samus Returns has helped me re-discover my love of gaming. What an excellent re-imagining of Metroid 2. Plus, it just "feels like a game". That might be a terrible description, but I mean it doesn't feel like I have to invest my life in some 100 hour open-world game or grind matches in an FPS to keep my skills sharp, just to have fun.
I am now realizing that I probably just needed to get back to single-player experiences, and having a system where you can bring it with you and just shut it at a moment's notice has been a huge bonus as well. I still have my PS4, but I'm thinking I'll invest in a Nintendo Switch sometime next year.
So, thanks those of you in /r/patientgamers who recommended Samus Returns and countless other 3DS titles.
