Counterfeit DS games?

I've been trying to bolster my 3DS/DS library since I'm assuming the systems will be out of production in the next few years (in favor of the Switch) and prices will probably go up.
I was on eBay and apparently counterfeit DS carts are a thing? Are these really as pervasive as people claim? If so, is there a better place to try and buy legit carts online?
