Is Grim Fandango really difficult or is it just me

I've always been a MI fan and when GF Remaster was on sale I couldn't resist, but I feel like I've played it for about 5 hours and only made about 3 steps forward
I read a walk through which says that you have to put a "bolt" on the server door, but every time I fill the server with packing material I get a cut scene of the maintenance guy fixing it and locking the door behind him.
Am I being dumb here or
