Is Destiny fun solo?

I totally missed the Destiny train when it first launched, but I'm curious to pick up Destiny: The Collection since it's on sale for ~$30 this Friday. From a "state of the game" does anyone know if it's solo'able now? I generally like Bungie titles, but I heard it used to be an awful grind that required dedicated parties. Has that been fixed or made easier for someone who will probably be playing by themselves often?
