Sometimes when a game is truly exceptional, to me, I don't dare playing it because I somehow feel that the time is not right. That can be for a variety of reasons such as not feeling that I have enough time, too much stress or just thinking that I might not be able to give the game the attention it deserves.
I have this with Elden Ring now. I played that game for close to 40 hours in January and was still having fun but stopped when work was very busy and haven't played it since. It's like there is some mental Block despite me thinking that that game is amazing.
Does this sound at all relatable? Because I'd like to hear others' experiences and perhaps come to understand this better.
In the past I have also had this with Rain World, feeling as if that game needed 100% of my focus to fully appreciate its world.
Alternative question may thus be: have you ever played a game at a time that, looking back on it, you wish you did not? Perhaps the best story beats coincided with loads of interruptions that made you not appreciate it as fully as you could have?
Constantly. I've had original sin 2 in my library for god knows how long but as you say, I'm just waiting for the right time. Once the stars align, I'll begin 😆
