What unexpected game mechanic do you wish you'd known about sooner?
Post Body

With well over 300 hours in Skyrim, I have never owned a horse. I've stolen horses and ridden unowned ones, then watched as they ambled back home as soon as I dismounted. What was the point of that then? I had a vague idea that any horse purchased from a stable would just do the same thing, wandering back when left alone. Thus fast travel and sprinting everywhere were how I got around.

Well, that changed with the Anniversary Edition DLC. Among the many different types of content added were wild horses that could be tamed and owned. Out of curiosity, I caught one and registered it at the nearest stable in order to trick it out with Elven armor. Pretty cool, I thought. But that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Because it turns out that an owned horse fast travels with you. They follow you around! Go into a city and your faithful steed waits at the stable outside. Gone delving beneath a Nordic ruin? Your equine companion will be waiting at the entrance. If you emerge from another exit, it's actually faster to jump somewhere else just to be reunited. I had no idea that owning a horse was so convenient. I could have been riding like the wind long ago.

Anyway, what stories do you have about only finding out about something deep into a game that would have made your experience that much better, if you'd only known it from the beginning?

The best part about this is if you run all the time Kim complains about it towards the end of the game
