My husband has been really struggling for past few months with fatigue. He has had leaky gut issues (food intolerances and some allergies) along with CFS for a while now but unfortunately even very accomplished senior Immunologists & Gastros here in London despite being very sympathetic (he was on private medical insurance) couldn’t do much and their advice to him was just keep trying probiotics and hopefully something would work. One specialist was very blunt and explained to him that there is no cure for such issues. This all was around 3 years ago. However his CFS was never this bad as it has been in last few months. Even after sleeping for 10 hours, he is always sleepy and struggling with mental tasks. He barely has energy to exercise.

His cholesterol has always been a little on the higher end (hereditary on his father’s side) but when he got it checked last week, it had shot up by a lot compared to last year. Now the doctor wanted to put him on statins but because my own father struggles with fatigue due to statins, he is not very keen on taking them. We were advised by couple of friends who are doctors themselves to get a thorough blood test related to thyroid done privately as getting your GP here in local NHS surgery would be next to impossible. The test results are rather surprising because thyroid seems perfectly functioning but other markers are alarming (high mchc, high ferritin, low folate). He has already booked an appointment with his GP for next week but his GP is usually not cooperative and will just downplay the results and avoid any further blood tests if past experiences are to go by. What points should he bring up in his appointment and if any tests/scans he should ask to get done to get a diagnosis of his recent issues?
Edit: I thought I should add here that we both do quite a bit of intermittent fasting. Him more than me. On average he fasts like 5 days a week for at least 17 hours. So this is all more shocking since fasting has been shown to reduce cholesterol markers and overall health.
