Some Predictions About 4.0.0

Post Body

After listening to an interview with a Diablo 4 developer on Quin's stream, I thought many of the answers to Quin's questions were disappointing. Knowing Blizzard, they could easily stay the current course with small tweaks all the way to release. Realizing Diablo 4 may turn out to be another disappointment, I remembered that PoE has a 4.0.0 reveal in 2 weeks.

This is where I started getting hyped. GGG has said that they planned for 4.0.0 to be in competition with D4. They intentionally planned to reveal 4.0.0 after Blizzcon (maybe so they could announce it after Blizzard hype died down, or to avoid having their thunder taken away had they announced it before Blizzcon) knowing full well this could backfire if 4.0.0 is a let-down. And knowing GGG, they will have anticipated all scenarios, including a Diablo 4 that learned from the mistakes of D3, thereby presenting a real challenge to GGG's current claim on the arpg throne. So GGG must be confident enough that they can raise the bar again, like its done since release, and release an update (if we could even call it that) that can go head to head with a competent Diablo 4.

So here are some of my predictions about 4.0.0 and feel free to leave your predictions below.

  1. They will redo the acts by introducing a time travel element (Shaper?) where a new enemy will change what has happened, effectively changing the world and Wraeclast never being the same again. This gives GGG an excuse to change the later acts if they aren't happy with the current playthrough. At the very least a new part of the world could be introduced.
  2. They will introduce for the first time in the arpg genre: Raids. We will be able to go into groups and tackle difficult dungeons that have a super difficult final Boss at the end. Bonus points if they raise the maximum group size to 8.
  3. Guild Hideouts.
  4. Companions that you can gear with their own skill-tree.
  5. New weapon-type. Crossbows, spears/polearms?
