Question - Possible to play with stand alone client with steam account?

I've been playing off steam since I started in Betrayal. However it is taking longer and longer to update the game through steam. I heard the stand alone client is faster, however I'm hesitant to start over with no MTX, particularly my stash tabs. Is it possible to play with my steam account through the stand alone or would I have to use a new account?
