Molten Strike / Wildfire
Inherent buffs:
Gains 1 projectile per 5 levels. This gives you 4 more projectiles at level 20, equivalent to two Wildfire jewels.
Gains 2% increased Area of Effect per quality point, instead of 1% increased Fire Damage.
Change to Wildfire:
Same limit of 2.
Molten Strike has 20% increased Projectile Speed.
Molten Strike's magma balls have a 25% chance to Chain, causing them to bounce further away from you akin to Magma Orb and deal another hit of damage.
Thought process: The boost to projectile count over the levels is fundamentally very similar to the bump in base radius given to other skills. The new Wildfire gem provides an excellent quality of life boost for Molten Strike builds and an interesting flavorful boost to their area-clearing capability, while not hugely increasing their already very strong single-target damage.
Frostbolt / Frozen Trail
Inherent buffs:
- Gains 3% increased Projectile Speed per second per quality point, instead of 1% increased Cold Damage.
Change to Frozen Trail:
Same limit of 2.
Frostbolt has a 20% chance to Knock Enemies Back on Hit.
Frostbolt has a 15% reduced Enemy Stun Threshold.
Thought process: Adding the projectile speed boost gives an excellent incentive to quality up the gem and a unique flavor, and a stun/knockback threshold jewel befits the "avalanche" theme and unlocks completely new build possibilities.
Frost Blades / Fight for Survival
Inherent buffs:
- Instead of 0-19% increased Projectile Speed, the scaling becomes 0-57%.
Change to Fight for Survival:
Same limit of 2.
Retain the cold penetration for melee - I don't actually have a problem with that, as it's flavorful and addresses the skill's shortcomings only when used for total cold damage.
Frost Blades has 10% increased Attack Speed if you've taken a Savage Hit in the last 10 seconds.
Thought process: The projectile speed scaling should be a part of the skill, and the Empower interaction is particularly good. As to the jewel, the Savage Hit plays excellently (albeit riskily, which is a good and thematic thing) into an evasion defense build like Kintsugi where you're taking infrequent but large hits, and has interesting interactions with the Berserker ascendancy.
I left the Freezing Pulse jewel alone because I was unable to figure out a better alternative, and most of the rest work in unique ways anyway.
