I just started working at a different dealership. Sold a set of tires and the pm training me informed me on DOT registration of the tires. Super easy to do but I've been a parts guy for 3 different brands and it's the first time I've done this. Is tire registration a common practice? Can my old dealership get in trouble for not doing this? Thanks in advance for any info!
At my dealer we need to do DOT registration just because we've been burned a few times on warranty claims and the parts department had to eat the cost of the tire since we didnt do it. Idk if lawsuits have been involved just more a warranty issue and making sure parts doesnt eat a tire. We usually do the DOT on dealertire, then also save the DOT on the comment of the part in CDK just in case.
