IS A BITCH.
A bitto background: I'm an insurance defense para. I work for a larger firm based in another state; I work for 3 attorneys by myself in a branch office. I've been in the field for 10 years but I've never been to trial. I've been to two arbitration hearings, so obviously I was using that for my frame of reference (ie, GET THE DAMN EXHIBITS DONE).
Trial is Monday.
The exhibits list wasn't finalized by atty until yesterday afternoon. No print shops I've used can turnaround the massive print job I need before the weekend. Kinkos is an option but since we work for insurance, I worry we'll front the bill and they'll balk at it and not reimburse us, so I'm just doing it in house until we get down to the actual wire...
MY COPIER RAN OUT OF TONER. Copier servicer is overnighting me toner but I'm so salty that they wouldn't send me backups the last time a situation similar arose. "We keep track of your usage and send it appropriately," boo, you need to keep track of my trial calendar, not our typically pitiful usage 🙄
AMAZON has fucked me completely. Ordered all my numbered exhibit dividers; was supposed to be "overnighted" and delivered this morning. They didn't show, which is fine bc I really didn't need them until tomorrow as I had some sets already. "Sorry, it's running late" is the only notice with no new estimate other than by 10pm Saturday. WELL THAT'S NOT GONNA WORK.
Cleaned out 4 Office Depots of their exhibit dividers, but I lost an hour and a half doing that.
Amazon just notified me at 7:42 that they attempted to deliver them after I told them to cancel it lol.
I rant to you all so that you don't end up like me. I'm making notes on this whole travesty for next time lol.
What are your trial prep tips?? Any pitfalls beyond this point I can try to avoid?? Do you have a good/bad/funny/tragic story??
I'd say TGI(almost)F but tbh I need an extra 3-5 days 🤣
CHEERS!!! 🍻
All of the young attorneys I’ve trial prepped for were great about getting everything ready and making sure we didn’t have to do everything the night before etc. the partners however, always wait till the last second and even during the breaks at trial one of us had to run out and print stuff off. We have the same kind of cases over and over again so our exhibit lists just have to be tweaked. Most of us work from home so when we are a little more prepared we use our office services department and they put all the binders together for us. It’s pretty sweet
