Hi!! As the title says, I'm (well myself and two other people) are starting up a mentoring program. We are all on the board of the paralegal division of our local bar association and we wanted to do something to help out students and new paralegals in our community. We remember what it was like to just be starting out and we all agree that it would've been nice to have a person/place to reach out to for some guidance.
Here's the thing, we don't know what we're doing. We have contacts at the local community colleges that have paralegal programs thru our scholarship program so we thought about starting there.
What we are struggling with is do we set up a live Q&A session, offer to meet up for coffee, do smaller Zoom meetings? Do we start off with general information or offer specific areas of law groups?
We are going to reach out to our entire division of members (about 175 paralegals and students) to see if any of the paralegals would be interested in being mentors so we can get a wide range of people to help connect other people with.
I would really love to hear from students and new paralegals/secretaries or really anyone that has been in this position to find out what would be helpful/ what you wish you had and if you would've used a resource like this.
I would also love to hear some ideas on how this should go.
We want to be a resource in our community that's led by people who are actually IN the profession and have real world experience.
Thanks!!!
