I was let go from a personal injury law firm. The layoff was me and a couple other women. I received unemployment because of this.
Before my first unemployment payment came in, I got nervous that maybe my old employer appealed it, because the office said they were pending the response. So I asked a woman I know was laid off about a year ago. I forgot she worked for the defense attorney I corresponded with a lot. I told her what happened and she told me to email her my resume and cover letter. Her boss wanted to see it. I did and next thing I knew, they wanted to meet me on a Saturday for a job interview.
The interview went well. I interviewed with the main paralegal, the office manager, and the attorney himself. They all seemed to really like me. One thing the attorney was concerned about was how my old employer would react to them hiring one of their main paralegals. I reiterated to him that they willingly laid me off. So it's not like I quit them and wanted to work with him. But he said he wanted to talk to my old attorney I was supervised under.
The office manager said she would get me a call in the middle of the week. I didn't even really know what position I was interviewing for and she said this was for paralegal (I assumed it might have been another secretarial position. Paralegal positions are getting really hard to come by). This was all on April 1st. It will be two weeks this Saturday.
I am not sure if I should follow up with her. And how to word it. Normally I would ask if the position is still opened, but they are technically not yet advertising the job posting. This was all a matter of good timing and convenience.
I know the first week was a trial and then it was good Friday. Not sure if they were off Monday as well.
I would like some insight to this.
