Are there any IRL examples of medieval rulers founding their own faith or heresy?

While the above feature will make Crusader Kings III campaigns very interesting, if you're the kind of person who's always dreamed of founding their own sex cult, I'm not sure there are any IRL examples of medieval rulers founding their own church, with blackjack and hookers.

Sure, Akbar the Great tried to pull it off, but in the 16th century. Maybe having your character choose to grant a heresiarch a place in their court would make more sense?
