Hello, and welcome to the 7th dev diary for the Syrian Civil War mod for Hearts of Iron 4. We have made so much progress this month, the map is almost completed with most countries already completed (this includes provinces in those countries) and we have already started working on the Order of battle. Our previous diary is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/hoi4/comments/8ip12l/syrian_civil_war_mod_dev_diary_6/
*the performance question:
Many people frequently ask us about how will our mod perform compared to Vanilla, we did some math about how our mod fare compared to Vanilla
In Vanilla 1936: there 70 countries with ~1000 units
While in our mod there will be: 25 countries with ~700 units So if we’re correct about this our mod will actually perform better than Vanilla or just as well.
*unit scale:
Since our map is zoomed our units count had to be adjusted too, instead of divisions we decided to use companies, meaning instead of a unit with 10000 men you’ll have units using 252 men and instead of regiments you’ll use sections of men. Here three countries using different types of doctrines
Hezbollah:
While not have as much men as the rest of the other Middle East countries they’re considered the most trained army in the Middle East apart from Israel. During the first start date they’ll have ~70 infantry companies mostly composed of Infantry and Anti-Tank sections. With no airforce Hezbollah is forced to use missiles that act like a sort of air support to wreck havoc upon its enemies.
Israel:
The most trained and best equipped country in the Middle East, having high standards for their equipment and high expectations for their men (even tho GoldAu is an exception).
In the 2013 date Israel will have ~ 144 Infantry Company, while called infantry companies all of these companies are mechanised and use advanced equipment to defeat their opponents so you’ll have to put in mind that a single IDF company can have a mean punch and will not be stopped easily.
An early template for an Israeli unit
Iran:
Iran has a massive army with an army numbering at around 500k men it was necessary to increase their size of units from companies to battalions to not have them have 1000 units. Don’t let the numbers fool you tho, the Iranian army is heavily under equipped most of their units don’t even have enough equipment to mobilise in the first 6 months in case of a war, some of their best tank brigades are still using T-54 and T-55. The Iranian army makes up for that with their use of unconventional warfare doctrines, from the usage of ballistic missiles and their funding of foreign militias near their enemies.
*new map scale
Our new map will give you the best Middle East experience that no HOI4 mod can.
Here is the size of Israel and Lebanon compared to some Vanilla countries:
