Help with Map Mods

Hey, I recently picked up EU: Rome and have been trying to install map mods on it for ages. I've specifically been trying the Epigoni one however this was a problem with all map mods. I seem to have followed each mods instruction the the letter however whenever I load the start date is stuck at 1 and there are no rulers for any country.
I only came to this subreddit because I've already tried getting info on the forum and the steam discussion group and have gotten none, so this was my last option.
