I have to say—Paper Mario 64 is one of my favorite games of all time. TTYD is up there in my top 10. I just completed the remake and was still itching for more Paper Mario, so I picked back up Origami King. I only got to the beginning of Shogun Studios and got bored back in 2020 and never picked it back up again.
I’m really glad I gave it another chance after writing it off as boring and not as good. I actually find it quite funny and charming, and the story is really lovely. The art style is also really fun and beautiful to play through.
I will say that I wish it had a more grabbing intro and first area. I also wish it had partners (i think this is what makes the first two entries soooo fun and memorable).
I really feel like you have to get into Shogun Studios before it really finds its footing and picks up. Stick with it until then and you’ll start to really like it.
