Hey there! I'm trying to make a gift box like this: https://imgur.com/a/kvmkY (sorry for the sloppy scribbles, hopefully it makes sense). The general idea is to have a square-based box with flaps that unfold once you open the top lid - giving it the general shape of a Boeing-like plane.
The only requirements are: the box itself needs to be close to that shape (not necessarily a perfect cube) and be made in a somewhat robust paper/cardboard (think something like a box for a smartphone).
Can anyone give me any hints/advice as to make it cool? Mainly in these fronts:
1 - How can I make the flaps fold nicely when the box is closed? Should the tips of the wings meet each other in a clasp of some sort, perhaps? What about the plane's tail, behind the box? And the front part? Any input would be great.
2 - How can I make it so the flaps go down all the way when the box is open? I really don't want them to be all floppy and go just half-way. :P
3 - Is there any sort of pop-up contraptions I could work on as to make the flaps go down automatically when I open the lid and go back up when I close it? I did a lot of research on this but unfortunately couldn't find anything close to what I have. This is not a requirement but I'd love to know any possibilities.
4 - Any other ideas or recommendations? Any advice is appreciated.
I'm open to any help, really. I'm somewhat new to this but I'm willing to learn! This is part of a class project and I'm just trying to make something nice. Thank you!
