Ok so I am going to try and put a positive spin on the Johnson trade. Like many of you I am unhappy with this move, but the more I think about it this might be possible.
This trade wasn’t about the picks, or the team getting better, or getting rid of a disgruntled player. It was about showing the league that the panthers front office will look out for players.
We are going to need free agents to want to come here, and holding on to a player that we most likely can’t resign, in a losing year is bad business for the team and for the player. By letting DJ go to a contender, it shows we are willing to do business when it makes sense.
Players will be more willing to come here if they know they won’t be doomed here or that management is going to be difficult to work with.
As an added benefit it also allows us to focus on the development of Legette and Coker who are two very promising wide receivers.
-just a fan trying to have some kind of optimism
