Does Pancake Swap work the same as Uniswap? Do I have to pay for and process an authorization and THEN pay for and process the actual swap?

In Uniswap and ShibaSwap, swapping requires a 1-time "authorization" for given coins (miner fee charged) and then you can process the swap (another miner fee charged).
Does it work the same with Pancake? Do does each coin pairing require a 1-time "authorization" transaction?
Please forgive if I'm using the wrong terms.
