Can we get streaming notifications back?

I was hoping that clicking the heart icons on my dropdown list would enable this again, but it only re-follows people (leading to a few people messaging me asking why I followed them even though I already had). I'm curious as to why this feature was disabled and if there's any chance it could come back.
