Question about pump longevity

Post Body

I'm wondering what I can do to increase the longevity of my pumps, it seems like they drop over 50% in pressure within a week of running them(filter-less pumps). Should I get a filter pump, or what solution do people typically use to not kill their water pumps with aquatic substrate and waste matter?
