PA VM GP Authentication Issues

So I've been playing with Paloalto VM in order to learn more about it for the PCNSE, and I've been trying to fix this issue where the AD user I'm using on a VM can't authenticate on the GW or the Portal, if I allow 'all' it works, but I only want to allow the hq\vpn group. is there something wrong I'm doing? or could it just be a 9.0 PA VM series issue since it's unlicensed?
