Here is the backstory:
I work in a coffee shop in Charlotte, NC. One of our great customers' mother is visiting from Pakistan for 2 months and she is amazing! She is in her late 70's and speaks zero English but conveys everything with her wonderful smile and sweet gestures. Needles to say, I love her despite our language barrier. I desperately want to give her a gift to take back home with her so that she might remember me and recall that I have been affected by her kindness. My own mother said jewelry was too personal and suggested a scarf. But my new friend already conveyed that her other son visiting soon is bringing me a scarf! I don't want to get her something to tacky and touristy. Most of my own ideas I have rejected for being too impersonal or too kitschy.
Any appropriate suggestions for a gift? Have you or someone you know visited the US from Pakistan and returned with a memorable gift? Thanks for any suggestions and have a great day!
