Anyone know of someone hydrofoiling a packraft? Why couldn't we stand in our flat bottom boats on top a lightweight foilboard?
Been thinking a lot about this given that the lightweight carbon pocket foil boards and wings together would add about 20# to travel weight. Seems doable, fun, and potentially worth the extra weight. Windy open water would go from being a lot of hard work to a welcome and fun opportunity to foil across the water.
Some example for weight reference:
https://www.duotonesports.com/foilwing/wings/echo/ A wing that has a boom(post) that weighs 4.5-5lb for the 5/6m versions.
I'm curious if we could maybe use our paddles for the boom and cut down in the additional weight of the boom? These wings are a bit lighter than the non boom wings I've seen.
https://www.crazyflykites.com/boards/pure Carbon fiber pocket foil boards. This model is about 3.5lb, depending on the size. We don't need a large volume board if we're attaching the board to a packraft.
Lots of carbon foil packages out there in the 8-10lb range.
So maybe with a foil setup it's close to 20#?
