Why is our defense so horrible? These are the best players in the world and yet most struggle on the defensive end. I don’t understand. Shouldn’t the coach be able to at least improve the defense of his players? I’m lost.
Pacers don’t have good man on man defenders. Haliburton is great in lanes but not at staying in front of people. Heild isn’t a good defender. Mathurin is young and not use to this level of competition. And turner is out but he will stabilize the defense when he’s back. Give it time for the team to figure it out. They’re young and trying to mesh not make a title run
What that means when people say that is he’s at the prime of his career. He doesn’t wanna wait 4 or so years to contend. If he isn’t traded so pacers get something back he’s gonna walk for nothing. And when a team is in rebuild mode you don’t risk letting a valuable player go for nothing just for a chance to resign him.
That’s what I mean by stabilize tbh. Getting beat to the rim won’t hurt as much with him on the court. Interested to see what the pacers FO is planning on doing with him tho. He’s a great player just not healthy enough. And doesn’t really fit into a rebuild timeline but it could work still

I said it could work still I just don’t see it happening. But no he doesn’t fit into the timeline. Pacers would have to throw him a multi year bag this off-season to keep him on the roster. Throwing a multi year deal to an injury prone 26 year old doesn’t make sense in a rebuild full of players in their young 20s.
If I’m pacers FO I’d ship him out while he’s under an amazing expiring contract and get developing players or picks for future trades. That’s worth more then gambling on him resigning to a tanking team not planning on making a serious playoff run for at least another year.
That’s what him not fitting the timeline means. He will be a big salary cap impact and more then likely accumulate more injuries when pacers need money to resign the young talents they have when the time comes.
The picks the pacers can get is worth more. Especially with buddy hield who undoubtedly doesn’t fit into the timeline is included. Don’t let players walk and get nothing in return. That’s the key to a successful small market team
