What ram and why (for Ivy Bridge)

I'm looking to upgrade to Ivy Bridge and I need real power, with that said I'm planning on overclocking a 3770k. What I'm wondering is what ram to go with, I'm planning on using DDR3 1600 but what I don't understand is why this is best, will I have enough overhead for overclocking or would a faster speed be better.
Basically I need some one to break it down barney style for me, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
