I need help explain

So I was playing with someone and I have Merton's firepoker and the broad dagger with all normal stuff saying nothing about leech or corruption and when I use the dagger to attack it's giving me leech and corruption and I'm at 38% and I don't have the money to even get to the dlc let alone get the stuff for the potions what's going on? Note that I have the skills from the rogue trainer I have the three dagger skills you get pre-boon
