(PC) lost save

I bought Outward DE on steam when it launched and then took a few months break. I launched steam today and my saves are gone? I checked both definitive and regular editions and there is nothing. The saves on my Xbox are fine just not stream. I did switch to a new PC although none of my other games have had this happen. Is there a way to recover it or a reason why this has happened?
