Since I can't get a clear answer online, I'm coming here. How long is the prologue?

I'm trying to say with a friend that just started the game and he plays on Xbox One and I'm on Series X. Are you unable to play the story with friends? He's gone through and selected his class and played a couple hours but it still says he hasn't passed the Prologue when trying to party up. Thanks in advance, and sorry if this seems like a silly question to most of you.
