Best character for a friend whom i don't want to rage quit?

I play a Devastator...love my class but truth be told, it hasn't been the easiest class to progress alone with and i mostly play alone....but...I have a friend who has tried out the demo and likes it and is pretty sure he will grab the game. I REALLY don't want him to buy the game, feel it is too hard and quit but i also have only played the devastator(to end game ish). What is a good character you guys/gals would recommend that he could solo with and progress easily when i am not online to play together? Thoughts?
