There's no preplanned overarching plot so just read it until you don't like it anymore.
Basically it starts as a high quality Conan parody, then shifts gear into a cutting satire on religion and politics, then moves into more personal stories, with increasing commentary on gender politics, until it collapses into the author writing full page rants on his own pseudomystical theory of misogyny.
The early stuff inspired a whole generation of indie comics - we wouldn't have stuff like Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles without Cerebus - and Sims personally helped many of those early creators, even down to stuff like footing the bill for convention fees. It's definitely worth a read for the early stuff, and it's quite a few years worth of comics before he starts Scott Adamsing.
