What Happened to Val? (Theories)

I know that Val was originally suppose to fight with Marta and be killed in the process, but since that didn’t happen in the final cut, what are your theories on Val’s fate?
Personally, I think she was killed by a mineshaft collapsing. No proof obviously but that’s what I like to think happened.
