Update: Looking to adopt an FIV+ cat
Post Body

About 10 days ago I reached out to ask if anyone had a lead on where I could adopt an FIV cat. My sweet senior baby was dying and I needed to be able to welcome a new cat into my arms shortly after.

Well, my sweet baby Feanor has passed. Claire Place sent an incredible home hospice vet to my house on Wednesday July 26th, and he passed peacefully in my arms. I sang him his favourite song Baby Beluga as he slipped away and held him until I carried him downstairs and delivered him into the waiting car of the vet. I’ve included the obituary I wrote for Feo in the comments in case anyone wants to know more about my baby.

The next day I adopted again. I had reached out to many rescues and no one had an FIV cat. That is until I spoke to Help Papineau Homeless Cats who told me about a little two year old orange boy named Garfield. He had been a street cat and had been in a shelter for seven months. He had had severe stomatitis that necessitated the removal of all of his teeth, ear infections and a hematoma that caused one ear to permanently curl, and he was FIV . He was also a huge love who loved to be with humans and animals alike. He was a little goofy, a little clingy, and had so much love to give. He was perfect!

So I adopted my newest baby on Thursday July 27th and renamed him Solomon! Solly is such a delight. He slept with me from day one and has been so sweet to get to know. My older baby Priscilla (8) is shy so we’re doing a slow introduction but so far so good! Solomon loves his toys, loves to hang out with me, and loves his food. He’s a huge sweetheart (literally! he’s nearly 20 lbs and I have an appointment with my vet to discuss his weight loss) and I love Sol dearly.

This was just a little update for the people who have messaged me here on Reddit and across social media asking what I ended up doing/how Solomon is adjusting.

One last comment now. I want to encourage everyone who might possibly want a cat to open their arms and hearts to FIV cats. Feo lived 13 years with his diagnosis and he lived a life of love. My baby Priscilla has never even shown a health symptom though she is positive as well. FIV cats are so overlooked when they have the most love to give. Please, if you are interested in adopting an FIV baby, contact me and I will tell you all about my experience. I hope that Feo’s passing is an encouragement to love those society may not deem as desirable. They are always the ones that need love most.

I’m happy to answer any questions regarding adopting disabled cats, FIV, end of life care from home, or anything else you might be curious about. Thank you all for your help in my last post. You made a terrible situation into the best it could be. My little Feo has passed, but in his memory Solly has found his forever home.
