Love the LI, but not on their route? (general)

Does anyone else have situations where you really like one of the love interests on every route but their own? Specifically, I'm having this issue with Van Helsing in Code Realize- he's my salty gun boy in the common route and on everyone else's route that I've played (so far); but then I played his route and 90 percent of the route is chasing after him going COME BACK HERE AND LET ME LOVE YOU and the follow up in Future Blessings is him and Cardia being all awkward around each other for most of it

Neither of these are inherently Wrong decisions, but it wasn't what I was going for and now I'm just dealing with loving Van Helsing from the background of dating everyone else in that game.

Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else?
